database

The MS Database Project is an initiative to design, develop and implement a database system integrating all aspects of clinical data with medical image data.  This image-centric database will enable users to visualize clinical data, including laboratory results, immunologic data, and examination scores, simultaneously with that individual’s MRI images.  This system will allow for selection (query) from data fields as well as in image space.  For example, selecting a region within an MRI image will then return all the clinical and MRI data on all patients with lesion present in the same anatomical space, or conversely, the selection of individuals on the basis of clinical data and will then enable visualization and statistical comparison of the MRI data from all individuals meeting the selection criteria.  By integrating the medical images and clinical patient data in a comprehensive system, the efficiency of intra- and inter-patient analysis is dramatically improved.  A future extension of this work would to tailor this system for physicians to use in the context of clinical patient care.
