volumetric measurement
Our laboratory is in a privileged situation. Working together with the MS Center of Partners Health Care gives us the opprotunity to collect and process hundreds of brain MRI images yearly.
Our researchers - biomedical enginiers, computer scientists, physisists and physisians - at the CNI group are dedicated to work out the most suitable state of the art imaging protocols according to the needs of clinical follow up of our patients as well as scientific research aims. They also constatly work on developing new or very specific image analysing tools.
We daily save brain and spinal cord examinations from the MRI scanner into our image database and proceed semi-automatic (EM and TD) image segmentation.
Volumetric results of the segmentation (gray matter (GM) volume, white matter (WM) volume, white matter signal abnormality (WMSA) volume and brain parenchyma fraction (BPF) to assess athrophy) are periodically (bigweekly or monthly) added to the database of the MS Center which also containes clinical information about the patients.
Six to ten multiple sclerosis patients arrive on the daily basis to the dedicated MRI scanner to be examined according to one of our well established imaging protocols.
Patients who are not enrolled in any specific studies recieve MRI examinations according to the clinical needs.
